Bert Groenendaal
Bert obtained his PhD in polymer chemistry in 1996 at Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands). After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California – Berkeley in 1997, he began his career in the industry where he worked on various R&D projects for several companies – including Bayer AG, Agfa-Gevaert and SIOEN Industries. Since 2020, Bert has work as an independent consultant who specialized in materials, aquaculture and project management.
Bert has over 10 years of experience in aquaculture, with a specific focus on seaweed. He has coordinated and/or participated in various international innovation projects related to seaweed. Bert co-founded ATSEA Technologies (now ATSEA Nova): a global supplier of turnkey seaweed farms. By his professional experience, Bert has garnered an array of knowledge related to seaweed, including but not limited to: (integrated) cultivation, biorefinery processes, business ideation and development, and hands-on expertise. Bert is well-organized and focused on tangible results, and is confident that seaweeds will be the feedstock of the future.
